Buckwheat porridge is one of the most popular domestic side dishes, which can be served in combination with a wide variety of meat, fish or even dairy supplements. In rare cases, the cause of constipation is the consumption of stale and dried cereals, so it is also not suitable for the diet menu.
Can buckwheat be used for constipation
The possibility of eating buckwheat porridge with existing constipation depends on several factors at once:
- the specific cause of the problem;
- type of dish made from buckwheat;
- the presence of meat and other additions to buckwheat;
- age of a person.
The latter criterion is especially important, since not all foods suitable for an adult's nutrition are equally suitable for children.
The older a person becomes, the more weakened the peristalsis of his intestines, which leads to the appearance of constipation. Part of the reason for this may be the limited motor function of the intestine, but do not forget about possible stressful situations, a sedentary lifestyle, lack of fluid and hormonal imbalance, which are in no way connected with the consumption of the mentioned cereals.
Important! The most useful when dieting adults is the combination of buckwheat with vegetables, fruits and lean meats. However, with severe constipation it is better to limit yourself only to the consumption of porridge and fruit, temporarily putting aside the meat component.
To help the body establish normal functioning, experts recommend the use of various diets, which, together with buckwheat, also include other cereals: oat, wheat, pearl barley. For one adult per day, at least 20–35 g of dietary fiber should be present, and if you take into account that 100 g of buckwheat cereal already contains 3.8 g of such substances, then several servings will help to fill the daily shortage of important components.
Buckwheat with sour-milk products, including kefir, yogurt, koumiss and yoghurt, is especially useful for problems with stools. They contain a large number of organic acids, known for their laxative effect on the body.
Regular consumption of buckwheat porridge (at least 1-2 times a week) will significantly reduce the likelihood of constipation in children. For preventive purposes, it is better to give them friable, boiled water grits, without adding seasonings, butter and high-calorie spices to them.

How to cook buckwheat for constipation
The most successful way of making buckwheat is to steam it. To do this, washed and slightly dried kernels are filled with kefir or hot water at night, and in the morning they are consumed without additional cooking.
Alternatively, you can cook steamed buckwheat or bake in the oven, using olive, sesame, linseed or any other vegetable oil as a dressing, but not more than 1 teaspoon per 100 g. Butter, greasy meat gravy or high-calorie dressings in this case will not work.
To improve the taste of porridge, it can be salted during cooking, and supplemented with prunes, dried apricots or fresh fruits before use.
Boiled buckwheat or steamed buckwheat has practically no contraindications, unless a person has already seen allergic manifestations of buckwheat.
Important! In the chemical composition of buckwheat, amylose is present - a type of slowly assimilated starch, therefore, people suffering from high blood sugar should use foods based on it very carefully. Starch contributes to an even greater increase in blood sugar.
In addition, you should not use the product for people during an exacerbation of diseases of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract or in case of damage to the mucous membranes of the stomach or intestines. In such situations, well-boiled oatmeal and a small amount of the same rice will be preferable.
Summing up all the above, we can talk about the almost complete safety of buckwheat for the human body, since in a relatively healthy body it is not capable of causing disturbances to the digestive tract. However, the nucleus will not consolidate or relax the work of the intestine only if the person adequately assesses his condition and tries to adhere to the requirements of the diet, otherwise even such a harmless product can adversely affect overall health.
